Downawanda Abbey 2013
Sponsored by the museum's Garment Preservation Program

During summer 2013, the Historical Society of the Tonawandas presented Downawanda Abbey -- an exhibition of historical costumes from the 1900-1915. The theme was inspired by the hit PBS TV-series, Downtown Abbey. The several gowns displayed represents only a very small portion of the collection. The Historical Society of the Tonawandas actually has a large costume and textile collection, through its Museum, at 113 Main Street, Tonawanda, and in archival storage. Mr. Streeter heads the society's Garment Preservation Program.

This presentation, generously hosted by the City of Tonwawanda Public Library, Glenn Luba, Director, is just the second of its kind sponsored by the Historical Society of the Tonawandas Museum to broaden exposure of the Collection with the public. Many of these artifacts have not been seen since they were originally donated.

Historical postcards of Tonawanda and North Tonawanda, and carousel art were also on display. See captions with each photo in this album.
