Niagara County Community College V-E Day Commemoration
May 8, 2015

The end of the Second World War in Europe and the 70th anniversary of V-E Day was commemorated with a USO-inspired show and a history fair at Niagara County Community College on May 8, 2015.

The V-E Day event capped off a semester-long campus observation of the war's anniversary that also included a photo display of World War II veterans, a film series, a spring musical, and a history conference.

A World War II-themed history fair began at 5:30 p.m. and featured activities and exhibits by area historical societies, veterans groups and civic clubs. Among the numerous organizations attending were Dog Company 1st I.D. WWII Reenactors, Old Fort Niagara, the Historical Society of the Tonawandas, Niagara Hospice, Hogs and Heroes Foundation, Swing Buffalo, and the National Guard.

Patrick and Carole Barnard represented the Historical Society of the Tonawandas with a display of military ribbons and medals. This was part of the society's ongoing community outreach program that promotes local history in a variety of venues outside the society's museum and the Benjamin Long Homestead.
