Message From Our New President, John Sherman

Feb 9, 2021

Welcome to the New Year!

As we journey into this new year of 2021, we are feeling cautiously optimistic that with the new vaccine becoming available, this will be a better New Year for us all. January is the month that the Society Board meets to elect the officers for the year, and your officers for 2021 are: President John Sherman, Vice President Alice Roth, Secretary Skip Johnson, and Treasurer Flo Beamer.

Since our bylaws limit the time a member can serve as President, I have assumed the mantle of leadership of this fine organization. A great deal of thanks goes to Alice Roth for serving as President for the last four years. She has done a wonderful job of guiding the Society forward during that time, leaving me with big shoes to fill. Fortunately, Alice remains on our leadership team as Vice-President, as well as being chairperson of our Development Committee. We want to also extend many thanks to Fred Hamp who served admirably as our Vice President the past several years.

We look forward to the new year and celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Society. We hope to have several special events to recognize this milestone. In addition, when the current COVID regulations are hopefully eased and allow us to open up once again, we plan on returning to a more standard operating environment:

1. Bringing back our standard open hours at the museum
2. Renewing our always interesting monthly programs
3. Implementing the regular hours at the Long Homestead and the special programs there
4. Resuming the popular Warrior Walks led by Skip Johnson
5. Commencing the remodeling of the museum

So, as you can see, we are hoping to have a busy, active, and informative year. We look forward to seeing you at some of those activities as life returns to “normal.” In the meantime, please stay safe and healthy.

John Sherman
President
