Our Mission:

To collect, preserve, interpret, exhibit, and publish the history of the cities of Tonawanda and North Tonawanda.

The Historical Society of the Tonawandas:
  • celebrates the history of the cities of Tonawanda and North Tonawanda, New York, two political entities located in two different counties who for more than a century shared one identity and continue to share projects and activities as one community
  • preserves the history of the Twin Cities of Tonawanda and North Tonawanda, New York
  • educates the public about this unique history
  • serves as a repository of artifacts and records related to the history of the Tonawandas, the Erie Canal and the Niagara Region
  • maintains two sites, a museum and the 1829 homestead of Benjamin and Mary Long
  • publishes the Lumber Shover newsletter throughout the year
