June 2017 Special Event

SPECIAL EVENT • NIAWANDA PARK PAVILION
Flag Day Celebration for Society Members and Guests

Wednesday, June 14, 2017
Open House: 5:00 - 8:00 PM • Admission is Free

Did you know …Flag Day was established (along with others) by Sarah Hinson, a Buffalo school teacher, now resting in Forest Lawn Cemetery with that distinction.

Join us to celebrate Flag Day and our historic roots on June 14, 2017 at the Niawanda Park Pavilion, a state of the art facility on the shores of the mighty Niagara River. Festivities begin at 5:00 PM.

Pelican Bill will welcome you to view a small selection of artifacts from our collection including a vintage 1800’s dress, the original stained glass DeGraff window that was above the front entrance of the original hospital, and other displays that outline the work of the Historical Society of the Tonawandas.

The highlight of the evening will be the unveiling of six of nine historic markers that will be installed on the North Tonawanda River Walk. Each is a color collage rendering of elaborate images featuring a variety of sites, buildings and objects with information on the industries and people who shaped the development of the local community.

Bring your friends and family to this unique and exciting event where we will enjoy light refreshments by Webster’s Bistro of North Tonawanda. The society will also be introducing a free 3-month trial membership for new members during the evening’s program.

Please R.S.V.P. by calling Alice Roth at 692-6059 on or before Sunday, June 11 and leave a message with the number attending so we can provide a count to Webster’s. A cash bar will be available.

The Pavilion is located off Niagara Street in the City of Tonawanda. Please use the entrance at Gibson Street. Parking is located in Sections C & D.

"Webster Street" is one of six historic signs to be introduced at the Historical Society's June 14th event at the Niawanda Park Pavilion. In total, nine historic signs will be installed along in North Tonawanda this summer to compliment the signs from the project's initial phase already available for public viewing along the river and canal in the City of Tonawanda.
